On Thursday, March 12, Chris, Adam and Nolan were able to attend ONE NCAA tournament basketball game in Greensboro, NC. And during that game, the rest of the tournament was cancelled. This was Nolan's surprise 40th birthday trip. So sad. The boys headed home the next day.
Erika, Marie and Luke were going to head to Seaside Florida with the Evens family. But due to the coronavirus, that trip was also cancelled. Instead, we were home. Doing nothing. Here's what we did while we did nothing from March 13th until summer due to the coronavirus pandemic of 2020.
We picked up litter when the snow melted. So much garbage. Single use plastic: You're my number one enemy.
The thing to do was to put hearts in your windows. "Spread love, not germs."
Distance learning started a couple weeks after the governor closed schools.
I didn't teach them.
Their poor teachers had to figure out how to do that from afar. Without a plan. Without having taught the kids to learn from home.
As they laid in their beds.
Our good friend, Kris Bevil, had shared a photo of a sign her son, Cameron, had created. And I thought "yeah!?! That's so true! We need another cat." (Cam trademarked the phrase and sent us our own poster to have.)
Luke and Marie had the wise idea to play every board game that we owned.
We loved the Game of Life. So many board games....
Chris was super annoyed by the number of times we needed to run the dishwasher in order to keep up with all the cups and glasses being used. So he created this masking tape system.
I'm not sure why, but we had never played poker as a family. Well yes I'm sure why, because I could never remember which hands were what and what beats what....turns out Chris had an entire box of business cards with the hands printed on the back of the cards from the Heartland Poker Tour days. We had a great time!
I mean, as great of a time as you can have hanging out with your family for the 1000th time. Cousin Ellisyn was able to join us for a game!
Marie started a letter writing "club" with her cousins, Halle and Eleanor. And then she expanded and started writing letters to/from others. She had quite a wall-full by the time summer rolled around.
There are not many days that badminton can occur in Fargo, thanks to the wind. But this spring day it happened!
Something super fun that happened during quarantine was our neighbor, Beth Karnik, being selected as the West Fargo Teacher of the year. Well deserved!
And Chris grew a beard during quarantine.
I thought he resembled another celebrity.
But Chris, John and Cori on Bob 95's morning radio show had a bunch of fun getting Chris' beard out of quarantine.
