First day of school, Halloween, Christmas, winter camp 2018-2019

Marie's first day of 3rd grade: Teacher, Mr. Hall

Luke's first day of 5th grade:  Teacher, Miss Joy

Travis' first day of 8th Grade

Eva's first day of Sophomore year

Marie's 9th birthday sleepover at a hotel:  Mya, Ellie, Jacob and Norah

Camping cots: not just for camping!

Shhhhh.... Travis says I have to stop telling people that he used granulated sugar instead of confectioners sugar to make Marie's birthday cake for tailgating.  It was a little thick and crunchy.  But still a great effort by a 13 year old!

Marie helping Erika with door to door campaigning for the November 2018 senate race.  Unfortunately, Heidi Heitkamp wasn't elected for a second term.  But everyone we met was very nice and very supportive of our efforts, no matter who they were voting for.

Travis and his buddies for trick-or-treating.  Travis has some kind of pokemon hat on.... I think.

Bison player Luke for Halloween.

Happy Halloween from the Fargo Police department! Luke has scared me so many times in my life as a parent. He left all his friends and walked home 1 block down a very busy sidewalk with people and neighbors and lights on everywhere. A neighbor even talked to him at 8:05 at our bus stop and he said he wasn’t yet done trick-or-treating. So I gave him a half hour. 45 minutes. 1 hour....nobody had seen him, people looking, I overreact and call the police and freak-out like a crazy person. Then a neighbor mentions that her older son is not yet home either....Luke saw this son right after talking to the 8:05 neighbor and finished the night with the older kid. He says “you just said I had to be with a friend, that I couldn’t be alone.” Rolled in at 9:15. He’s 10. Now I’ll go die of embarrassment for my freak-out and perhaps sleep with and cuddle him...or strangle him. I can’t decide.

Btw, this is how much candy you can get in 3+ hours of trick or treating. This is 14 POUNDS of candy.

Well this broken arm explains why Eva was doggin' it in her swim event.  Swam the rest of the season with a broken arm/swim cast after falling on the deck as she stepped off the benches.

Chris and Jon Anas coached Luke's flag football team again this year.  But the last game, they let the boys do their own play-calling.

Section 8 with the Syllings

Thanksgiving turkey on the Big Green Egg.

Thanksgiving game of kahoot.
I'm not sure how this happened, but Chris came and ran this Jingle Bell Run with us.

My life just got a whole lot easier. Woo-hoo!!!!!! My own personal Uber driver now lives in my house!?!? The lady at the front of the DMV said that she wishes they recorded parental reactions, because they are all so different. She says I would’ve won the “happiest” award.

Snow amount at Christmas.  We had many, many, many days of shoveling this year.  Christmas was just the start of the blizzards.

2nd week in March 2019: snow amounts.

Christmas morning opening gifts.

Family movie night at Christmas

Playing the new game of "Forbidden Desert."
And a new game of electronic banker monopoly.
And Tenzi. Eva's good at this game.
Travis being the nicest cousin ever and playing barbies with Eleanor.

Buckhouse Christmas!

Buckhouse Cousins!

Travis (13) and Eva (15) at the Holiday lights parade downtown.

Eva's new headboard made by our neighbor, Jerry Leier.  And Luna spending much more time indoors this second winter than her first.

Winter-hike in jackrabbit ally. My parenting tip of the day: When in doubt, kick them out. Their constant arguing and fighting is more tolerable out in the wide-open.

Is this the last gingerbread making ever!??!?!

I planned a day of professional development for school-based therapists on this day-off school for the students. So the mom of Marie's friend, Mya, had nicely taken Marie sledding and ice skating and was calling me and I didn't have my phone on.  Chris was at the oral surgeon with Eva; She had her wisdom teeth and some hardware removed on the same day. Travis was "in charge" of the little kids, and hadn't yet gotten out of bed.  I took one look at Marie's arm when I got home at 4:10 and we ran to the ortho walk-in: I see why the mom-of-the-friend said "I'm taking her in" before Chris got home.  We made it 11 days into the don’t-get-hurt-the-deductible-is-no-longer-met new year. She went ice skating and sledding with friend, and then got hurt on the playground.

I don’t like it when Facebook is just a highlight reel of people’s lives. It can make people feel bad about themselves, and it’s untrue that our lives are that great. But I’m doing it. I’m gonna brag and you are just going to have to be green with envy. I’m at Scout winter camp. The air temp was -25 degrees when we pulled in 3 hours ago. I have to walk outside to go to the bathroom. Luckily, these girls are cozy and adorable and giggly. (-30 was the temp when I started the van to go home Sunday morning.)

See how the sun has already set? That’s when we (myself and another campy-mom) decided that the girls could likely hike across most of the lake to get to an island that “looks pretty close?” To add to the element of adventure, we passed a half-eaten deer carcass with dog-like paw prints all around it. Some girls were afraid of wolves, moms were afraid of running out of light, and some girls were afraid that their legs would just stop working tromping through the deep snow. But we made it to the lighted sledding hill just as all the forest went completely dark (but it was close!). Nobody complained, nobody whined, nobody cried; they just pushed-on and were very brave and very adventurous. I was worried that these are 5 girls you would never see camping or hiking again....instead, they loved the adventure!
